SAFEWAY GROCERY

Safeway, the Start-Up
In 1915, M.B. Skaggs, an ambitious young man in the small Idaho town of American Falls, purchased a tiny grocery store from his father. M.B.'s business strategy, to give his customers value and to expand by keeping a narrow profit margin, proved spectacularly successful. By 1926 he had opened 428 Skaggs stores in 10 states. M.B. almost doubled the size of his business that year when he merged his company with 322 Safeway (formerly Selig) stores and incorporated as Safeway, Inc. Two years later, M.B. listed Safeway on the New York Stock Exchange. M.B. did not let the difficulties of the Great Depression dilute his pioneering focus on value for custom...

O'LEARY PEAK TRAIL

O'Leary Peak distinguishes itself as a lava dome volcano, a contrast to the cinder cone formation of Sunset Crater Volcano.

The hike follows a rugged roadbed riddled with potholes, rocks, and eroded sections. Pets are welcome on leash, though summer temperatures can pose risks to animals left in vehicles.

Initially accessible by vehicle up to the pass between O'Leary and Darton Dome, the route now entails an additional mile of hiking due to road closure. En route, hikers traverse Sunset Crater's striking lava flow, a sight worth exploring off the beaten path.

Ascending involves navigating six switchbacks leading to a tower situated away from the peak itself. To...

June is National Homeownership Month

Tue, Jun 16th 2020 9:51 am by Tammy Emineth Buyers

You may not have realized, because it is not hugely advertised, but June is national homeownership month. This is not something that is newly created to be part of the trending national celebrations we have begun to take part in and tag online. National homeownership awareness actually began as a week-long celebration in the 1920s. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the benefits that come with homeownership.  June is National Homeownership Month

This year, due to the worldwide pandemic, homeownership month looks very much different than we ever could have imagined.

For a large number of Americans, homeownership is at risk. Jobs were lost, paychecks were cut, layoffs and furloughs happened and all of this impacts the ...

Tips for Checking Out an HVAC System When Buying a Home

Fri, Mar 27th 2020 3:12 pm by Tammy Emineth Buyers

Tips for Checking Out an HVAC System When Buying a Home

Here in Sedona, we get some very high temperatures in the summer and sometimes some very cold ones in the winter. It is a good idea to know the Sedona home you are purchasing has air conditioning and heating systems that are in great condition. Here are some tips on how to check out a home’s HVAC systems.

Look at It

This one seems like it’s a little obvious. Air conditioning units, furnaces, and boilers are all hidden away from the main areas of the home where buyers don’t typically go. When you are doing a walk through before making an offer make sure to look at this equipment. Ask yourself if it looks like it is clean and in good condition. Just looking at the system from the out...

How to Know if Home Renovations Were Done Well

Wed, Feb 26th 2020 11:50 am by Tammy Emineth Buyers

The words recently renovated or recently updated are appealing when you see them while searching for homes. They entice you into looking further. Who doesn’t want a home that is close to brand new without the higher price?

Some renovators, whether they are hired professionals, house flippers, hobbyists, or DIYers will put in upgrades or redo an area in a home with less attention than needed to make the property look nice hoping to get a big return on investment and bring in a top listing price. In these cases, the home will look great at first glance but could end up needing work and costing money as time passes.  How to Know if Home Renovations Were Done Well

When buyers are looking at newly renovated homes they should be careful ...

10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU SELL YOUR HOUSE

Sun, Feb 16th 2020 2:04 pm by diana steves Sellers

10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU SELL YOUR HOUSE

4min read

Before you put your house on the market, ask your real estate agent for guidance on improving your home's presentation. Your agent can tell you what buyers expect in your particular market and at your home's price point. The following 10 steps are a way to get a good head start on preparing to sell your home.

1. Welcome buyers. Make your front door visible and accessible to buyers. Paint the door, clear debris and clutter from the walkway and yard, mow the lawn and prune hedges. Pot or plant colorful annuals and perennials to attract attention from the street. Fix broken screens, doorbells, roof tiles, shingles and outdoor lighting, a...

But, do buyers need to know everything about the ins and outs of a real estate transaction before being comfortable enough to buy? We don’t think so. Nobody wants to be told how to do their job but educating yourself on the right topics really can protect yourself, ...
